SAW IT AT THE THEATER WITH MY GRANDMA,AUNT AND COUSIN....NOT GREAT,BUT GOOD ENOUGH...I LIKE THIS MOVIE AS WELL.

reply

Chris O'Donnell was good as Robin. Jim Carrey was at peak zany. Tommy Lee Jones is always good. And Drew Barrymore as Sugar... sweet.

reply

Me too

reply

Jim Carey was awesome.

Imagine if he was in a serious Batman and played the same role.

It would be great.

reply

Yes. Also Tommy Lee's Two-Face was terrible. I would like a serious Batman with Jim Carey's Riddler but without Two-Face.

reply

It was stupid.

If you had a seriousish Cary as the Riddler, who is basically a serial killer, it would be fucking awesome. I would sit in a coronavirus filled theater to watch, twice.

reply

I think Carey still can pull it off now. It would need to be a spiritual sequel to Joker (2019). Set in the same Gotham and with the same tone. Probably move the timeframe a few years. The Riddler is one of the most interesting but under explored Batman villlain character.

reply

He certainly could.

It would be awesome to play the same role but a different take on it. I think that would be an acting challenge and something to talk about.

I am sick of low tech Batman though. I want it to be near future with the same kind of stuff you see in Marvel. Nick Fury can have a flying car, so can Batman. He could not exist with current tech as helicopters and stuff make it so you can't escape. Batman could only work with very futuristic technology.

Use the current Joker, just more Jokerish, and Carey, then you would have a very dramatic and scary film.

reply

Low tech Batman is basically betraying the character. Batman was always using futuristic tech. But I think they wanted to keep a distance from Iron Man. I can understand that. I like how they decided to make Joker in the 80s so the low tech angle is not too ridiculous.

So if they actually make a Riddler movie, I hope they keep the vague 80s time period. Just move a few years.

I would like them to explore the possibility of making a new Joker in the future. The real Joker character, that we know and love, but was inspired by Arthur Fleck's legend and repurposed it for himself. That way they can close the age gap between the Joker and Bruce Wayne. And at the same time keeps the origin of the real Joker a mystery.

That means, Arthur Fleck would be left forgotten and nobody would care for him, his persona, and whatever he has done, making it a sad sad full circle.

reply

Interesting bunch of ideas.

I am just hoping that one day we get a real Batman.

it's ironic that they were worried about Iron Man, since he is inspired by Batman. Spiderman is a version of Superman in many ways as Parker is like Clark Kent only poorer.

I rewatched 89 Batman and thought the Joker was the most on point in general behavior. I have never liked a Joker since and I wish they would just do the full character in a serious Batman that is high tech. It's like going on 30 years here.

Meanwhile, all the cartoon movies are on target. That is bizarro!

reply

I just watched Mask of the Phantasm last night. It was so good! I really hope Pattinson's Batman movie took notes from this cartoon.

reply

All of those films are better than most DC movies and most comic book films. It's because they are true to the source material.

reply

Joker from Burton's batman is not accurate to the source material either. In which comic did he kill Wayne's parents again?

Hypocritical to dislike Ledger's joker for not being accurate to source material but give a pass to Nicholson's joker. By your logic you should dislike all joker's except for the comic book version.

reply

It was far more true, not 100%.

Ledger's Joker was terrible and he didn't invent it, it was the writer, and director.

He had ZERO in common with Joker and his voice sounded like a pervert. It was in fact copied from this 70s western I saw where the one cowboy was a pervert.

reply

I thought it was bad if it deviated from source material? Now it's oh well it was more accurate. Also no it was not. You never answered my question in what comic did Joker kill Bruce's parents? That's a major plot point in the film. So answer the question.

Zero in common? You need your eyes checked. Purple suit check, crazy laugh check, psychopath check. Insane laugh check. It's your opinion it sounded like a pervert nothing more. You are in the minority in thinking his joker was bad.

reply

I didn't say it was exactly the source material. It was far more based on the source material than any other Joker.

The character, personality, of Joker is something you don't understand. The character goes back to a Victor Hugo novel and movie. Ledgers had nothing to go with the character.

reply

Sure about that? More accurate than Mark Hammil's Joker? I think you are wrong.

Accuracy to the source material makes no difference on whether the film is good or not. We judge it as a film first. Yeah he wasn't the same why imitate what's been done? Nicholson wasn't like him either. Like I said if you want to play the game of it's bad because it is not accurate to source material then Burton's films are trash also. Every superhero takes liberation with source material. Iron Man in marvel takes lots of liberation. Some of which made it better.

Second in Nolan's version of Batman Joe Chill killed his parents like in the comic books... That is a big way Nolan was more accurate to the source material than Burton. I think you need to brush up on your batman history bud.

reply

No.

Material with a long history and well established characters that have been a hit for a long time aren't something to play around with. There's many failure to prove it.

The cartoons are the best of any DC media, but they aren't really films, so I wasn't talking about them.

Compared to all other films, Burton's first film is the best regarding the material. Batman isn't low tech, the Joker is a person who finds terrible things funny, which is the character, and it's in an alternate world. Compared to the source material, none of these films are good because Batman is a genius, inventor, detective like Sherlock Holmes, only a ninja with futuristic gear.

reply

The dark Knight trilogy was a massive success so apparently that must not be one of the failures you are referring to. Also no evidence has shown as long as you deliver a great film it doesn't matter if it's accurate you can still have success.

Mask of the Phantasm was released in theaters therefore that counts as a feature film.

Way to skip over my points lol. You have no retort because you are full of it. Who killed Bruce's parents Joker or Joe Chill? Joe Chill did. So there is one of many examples where Nolan was more accurate. A ninja with futuristic gear? Were you asleep during Batman Begins? Goes off to train with ninjas aka the league of shadows. This quote from Batman Begins: a ninja understands that invisibility is a matter of patience and agility. Come against that, don't side step it. Since you claim to be so smart.

reply

You keep focusing on these details I don't care about and didn't mention.

I have been talking about the personality of Joker, not the fine details.

These movies are so off that one can only hope that the general details of the characters are somehow included. That is where I'm at on the reality of these films.

Ledger's Joker is nothing at all like Joker, in any way, personality, looks, nothing. It's as if some weirdo decided to dress up as Joker in a world where Joker exists.

Suicide Squad Joker is from source material, All Star Batman and Robin by Frank Miller, but his Joker sucked and I don't know why he did it that way. Everyone hates that one in the movies too. Although the comic was generally hilarious in its departure for the characters and story.

reply

So if you do not care about them then the liberation does not apply. Bruce's parents murder is a big defining thing of Bruce Wayne/Batman. To change that significantly changes the character.

The fine details are what determine the personality bud. You may not care but I as well as many others do.

Purple suit check, insane psycho check, crazy laugh check, enjoys destruction and chaos check. All defining characteristics of the Joker.

Which proves my point further. Okay so it was accurate to source material did people like it? Nope Leto is considered one of the worst Joker portrayals ever. Ledger is considered one of the best.

reply

As I thought no retort.

reply

Your posts are weird and dumb though.

You're focused on stuff that has nothing to do with my post.

reply

I liked it in spite of it being so goofy. It was certainly better than the one that followed it. It was a fun picture and a big box office attraction made before our society decided to start worshiping superhero movies.

reply

I have always had a hard time enjoying this one since before it even came out, I was introduced to Two Face in Batman the 90s cartoon. The writers of this movie went against how the character should've been imo. I wish they'd just brought Joker back somehow cause it's obvious that's really who they wanted. Two Face just doesn't fit in a goofy toned Batman movie.
