Keaton wouldn't do Batman without Burton?

As some sources say, probably one of the reasons didn't return.

He also said he didn't like the script.

Annoying the world since 1960!

And at the same time Batman Forever was being written, there were plans to make a Catwoman spin-off movie directed by Burton and with Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman, but for the same reason Keaton refused to come back for BF (Burton not directing), Pfeiffer didn't star in that Catwoman spin-off which eventually became the 2004 film starring Halle Berry.

I stand by my opinion that, Michael Keaton in a sense, hurt his career by walking away from the Batman franchise the way he did. This is because Keaton no longer had the “engine” so to speak of the Batman franchise to help gravitate towards his other works. It didn’t help that people quite frankly, weren’t interested that much in seeing him try to be a dramatic actor (after long establishing his manic, eccentric funny-man persona). It would be like if Christopher Reeve didn’t want to play Superman anymore after two movies in light of Richard Donner’s unceremonious ouster during the making of the second movie. I do think that by the time that Batman & Robin was made w/ George Clooney as the third actor in a four movie span to play Bruce Wayne meant that it really didn’t matter anymore who was playing Batman. Basically, it really was more or less, about who was going to play the villains first and foremost.

I agree TMC-4 I feel Keaton should have still done this film even if he didn't like the script and Burton was gone plus I heard he was asking a lot to come back but didn't like that it was going to be lighter however had he done it am sure he would have had enough stroke to say you know what lets to it this way so it wont come off so light.Keaton has said that he wanted a Batman Film that had more focus on Batman this was his chance because we all know that would not have happen with Burton he was into the villain's with that said am glad we got Kilmer in this film I agree with Bob Kane that after the Four Films that Val had given best interpretation of Batman for me I feel if Batman wear to come out of the comics he would look like Val Kilmer or Adam West on a side note I think its funny how Keaton has said that he has not even seen all of Batman Returns and only agreed to do it because he needed money for a real-estate deal which tells me that he didn't even want to come back to the role.

Perhaps it would've made it a little more watchable, Keaton does seem Choosey over what films he should do (probably why he disappeared off the spotlight), not those actors who's in it solely for the paycheck.

I agree with Bob Kane that after the Four Films that Val had given best interpretation of Batman

Ditto. I liked Keaton but I liked Kilmer more.

And yet now he says that if the chance arose to do a third with Burton he'd jump at it!

I heard that too as I said before I would have liked for Keaton to have done the 3rd Movie I would also have to question that Keaton said he didn't want to do this film because they wear going to light it up but he did Jack Frost? years later LOL. I really think it came down to Burton not being Director while he was Producer maybe Keaton felt you know Tim Burton is not on board am out too I look at Batman 1989-Batman Forever as a Trilogy because they have lots of info that talks about the passed Films others would have it just Batman-Batman Returns then there's Batman Forever-Batman and Robin. I feel that a proper edit/recut's of Batman-Batman Forever would have the 3 Films connect more because even Batman Returns its just to far out there it really needs an edit now don't get me wrong I like Batman Returns my big problem with the Film is not only is more a Tim Burton Movie then a Batman Movie but a lot of people give it a pass because its very dark yet trash Batman Forever for example that Two-Face came of as a Joker cloned instead of being like how he was in the comics yet Burton changed Catwoman and Penguin and nobody says anything about that to me that's bull but that's how I feel.

Likewise! 👍

I saw all four films at the cinema, but whilst I own Batman, Batman Returns and Batman Forever, I've never had any desire to own Batman & Robin (Batman Returns is actually my favourite of the three). I like Affleck's Batman and I hope he stays in the role for a few films yet, but I must admit seeing Keaton in the suit again would be cool. He looks like he could still carry it off!

I Agree with you I think Keaton could pull it off I always wondered how he would have looked in the Forever suit I know Bale used it when he was reading for Batman your lucky to have seen the 1st Film I was too young I was 4 Years old when it came out.Batman Returns was the 1st Film I saw in the cinema its funny that you said you don't own Batman & Robin I happen to own it on DVD and Blu-Ray the Boxset's The Dark Knight Rises is the only one I stil don't own I was really let down by that Film but that's another topic LOL for Batman & Robin I will say this I don't hate it as much as I use to. Do I think its the best Film/best Batman Film no I do like some things about it but I also don't agree when I see people have it as the worst movie or the worst superhero movie because I can name so many more worst movie's then that LOL. There's nothing wrong with Batman Returns being your favorite I respect that Batman Returns is my 3rd favorite out of the original 4 I was watching it last night on HBO I still get goosebumps when they call on him he's sitting in the dark in his house waiting then the Bat Signal shines he stands up with the Bat Signal behind him and goes to the rescue Affleck am looking to see more of his Batman too.

He wouldn't make it with a director who makes every word from his mouth a pathetic joke.
