Great concept, talent was there, just didn't come together for me

Too many elements were a bit quirky. I thought the delivery throughout was unnatural. It was pretty consistent across actors, so I'd put that on the director going for a sound that didn't work. Some of the elements of Fishburne's character didn't work for me. Langella is awesome as usually, though. I would have liked to have seen more fleshed out like the dual nature of Barkin's character. We don't see enough of it to make her regrets at the end stick.

Other strange bits. I thought Fishburne's makeup[?] was off. His skin looked unnatural for some reason. I don't know enough about how it works to tell exactly what it was, but his skin and hairline looked plastic and fake. The 2nd sex scene between Fishburne and Barkin was really awkward as well. Almost felt Showgirls weird. I thought Fishburne's apartment looked like something from a 60s set showing off color TV; or an episode of the Teletubbies.

Just an "off" movie all around. Did like it though 6/10.

7/10 for me the main actors made the movie engaging for me.

You're too kind to this one, imo, even though the usually interesting actors and the twisty plot can be a little engaging.

Mannered and unrealistic even within the confines of its over the top, secret operative, wiseacre cartoon violence, double double crossing, double entendre universe. The final shootout was particularly ridiculous. Ebert's favorable review is illuminating because of how far off it is.

I also had questions about the set design and art direction...in more than just one location.

There was something missing for me as well. I can certainly get behind a film with morally corrupt protagonists but was looking for something more in the finale. Fishburne and Barkin both gave wonderful performances though.
