Does anyone know about the true story on which this movie is based?

The DVD cover calls this a "Lifetime True Stories" movie. That is kind of hard to believe, considering how unbelievable the plot it. They must have taken some true story and embellished it a lot for this movie.

I saw the film years ago, never knew it was based on a true story.
