New BSC book due out for March/April 2010

http://www.amazon.com/Summer-Before-Babysitters-Club/dp/0545160936/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1251990038&sr=1-2

Scholastic has confirmed it (but they stated the release date as March 12, not April 1st like the amazon page says), and Raina Telgemeier who did the BSC Graphix has also confirmed it and said it was AMM's idea.

I was excited to hear about that new book because I loved the BSC growing up. However, I'm very disappointed about the plot content. It looks like it's just going to be a rehashing of the same stories that have been told ten million friggin times. Wouldn't it be a lot nicer to have a story about the girls AFTER the BSC? You know, when that one single year of their lives was over? Sure, the club changed the girls' lives, but come ON. By the time you're 25, age 13 is just one year in a sea of many. I would love to read a BSC book set 10 years in the future, when the girls are fresh out of college and are hosting a reunion in Stoneybrook. They've invited all the kids they used to sit for and they're reading the letters they wrote to themselves in the future (in the Graduation Day book) and catching up on each other's lives.

But noo. They have to rehash the same old same old plot lines again and again. Yawn.

^ I totally agree!
It's a prequel, and we already KNOW what happened before the girls started the club: Stacey was diagnosed with diabetes, Kristy's dad ran out on them, Mary Anne's dad is strict, rah rah rah. I would love to see the baby-sitters graduate from the eighth grade.

They DID graduate from the 8th grade in teh final BSC book Graduation Day which was in the Friends Forever spinoff. (which was written after #131 The Fire at Mary Anne's House which was the last book in the regular series)

Oh, I never read many of the Friends Forever books, I didn't like them.
But, what I mean is that I would like to see the Baby-Sitters after the eighth grade, after their graduation; instead of just going back in time and re-hashing old plotlines.

I HOPE she'll delve deeper into the storylines. I'm interested in seeing what exactly she does with it.
They're also rereleasing the first few books at the same time, so who knows?

I loved the prequel! As well as the graphic novel versions of the first four books. However, I'm disappointed in the new covers. =( They're simple, bold, colorful, cute, and to-the-point...but downright boring compared with the INCREDIBLY wonderful, detailed, artistic, attractive originals! Those pictures I would hang on my wall.
