Anyone else notice the not so subliminal (but subtle) liberal political messages throughout the film? The anti-NRA logo on the side of the bus during the cab gunfight, the anti-fur logo spray painted on the coat and the pro-choice shirt on the waitress at the cafe?
Why do writers and directors pull such garbage? If they really believe the content of the messages is right, then why do they feel the need to shove them down people's throats?
They're subtle. They didn't force them down people's throats.
shareUm, those aren't subliminal messages. The pro-choice and anti-NRA symbols are things you could see in real life by just leaving your house. The anti-fur action wasn't a message at all, but a part of Electra's character.

That's like a trademark in Ricahrd Donner's films. He did the same thing in the "Lethal Weapon" films where he put "End Apartheid" signs on Murtaugh's (Danny Glover's character) refrigerator. Donner purposely made the antagonists of "Lethal Weapon 2" to be South Africans as a way to expose to the world the situation that was going on at the time and wanted to have the scene at the South African embassy with people holding signs agaisnt apartheid. Originally, they would've been Russian or German.

Agreed, Donner's done that in many of his films, not just Assassins, it's definitely one of his trademarks.

wow, you certainly caught lots of grief for this post. i noticed it as well. i'm not sure i'd even call it subtle. i first noticed it during the funeral scene where they kept making references to "right-wing death squads" in south america.
then the nra and super out-of-place pro-choice shirt... hard to miss.
They weren't subliminal at all. These messages were put there for loud and clear visibility. I liked the movie okay outside of that stupidity.
