Why aren't the floor tiles drawn in perspective?

I have lots of questions but the biggest one at the moment has to be:

Why aren't the floor tiles drawn in perspective?

It's so distracting! They drew whole scenes in 3D (kind of), but decided to draw the tiles as perfect squares!?

I've only just found out about The Thief And The Cobbler and it's production. Very interesting story. I've always been an amateur "cartoonist", so I'm fascinated by it. I admire the technical achievements of this film but I can't say I like it. It's quite an ugly animation style to my eyes. Poor character design, weird character movement, almost indecipherable compositions, characters that don't stand out from backgrounds. Not worth 24 frames a second in my opinion. Crazy! He made it needlessly difficult for himself, it really was a form of self sabotage. If any animation expert wants to explain why I'm wrong, I'd love to hear. I haven't seen a really impassioned defense of the animation style that accepts any of its faults. I've only seen out and out praise for it that I can't quite fathom.

I'm struggling to get through the whole thing. I think Aladdin and Disney did no wrong, everyone stands on the shoulders of giants. And frankly, the character design and animation in Aladdin is just so much more aesthetically pleasing. Simple done well is always better than complex done badly.

EDIT: By the way, I'm referring only to the workprint on YouTube. I've not seen the other versions at all.
Another EDIT: I'm just watching "Nostalgia Critic - The Thief and the Cobbler part 1/2" on YouTube and (though I think he's 95% insanely annoying) he is tearing it apart pretty magnificently.
