If the 'cheesiness' kept you...

... from giving this movie a higher rating then simply filter-out the "cheesy" moments and reevaluate how good this movie is.

It seems that IMDB viewers who explain their reasons for giving this film anything less than an 8.5, do so because it's too "cheesy". C'mon - it's Ron Howard... a master at portraying and stirring human emotion in his movies. If it wasn't for this particular attribute of his style, which some viewers just can't or won't accept, would the movie get higher ratings?

The funny thing is, is that it's the "cheesy" moments (i.e., those emotional scenes accompanied by emotional music) that either put a smile on your face or a tear in your eye. The only other way to achieve those reactions outside of the movie would be to have been there in real life.

And since that wasn't possible for a lot of us, then THANK YOU, Ron Howard, for the cheesy moments!! In this viewer's humble opinion, they only enhanced an already superb movie.

I don't remember anything being cheesy in this movie.

I agree... it's a dramatisation of a seminal moment in modern history... watching it I feel many a tangible emotion... Awe, relief, melancholy, satisfaction...

...it's only cheesy if you're a boring b*stard.

I can't think of anything, either! Except maybe the clothing, but it was the early 70's, and clothes were cheesy-looking back then. But I thought even tho costuming was spot-on.

Love this movie. It's in my top 25.

Yes, thank you, Ron Howard, for being a populist hack. And a "master at portraying stirring human emotion" is something quite opposite to him - someone who can do that without wallowing in easy mawkishness.

Thing is, there weren`t nearly as many of those cheesy moments in here as I remembered; it`s pretty good Hollywood entertainment and a story well enough told. Rated it 7/10.
