Beautiful Movie

very poetic

One of the most beautiful ever, I think...

Then I have to see it.

reply

And did you? I am really curious to find out what you thought of it...

reply

I have no idea where to get it. To bad.

reply

That's BAD!! Where do you live?

reply

Sweden

reply

And you looked under the title "Antonia"?

try e-bay. There's many DVD's (expensive) and VHS cassettes (cheaper) around. This is really one of the best movies ever. Compares to some early Eric Rohmer movies, the Swedish 'Tilsamen' or 'Italian for Beginners'. But more poetic and stronger than the others.

reply

More appealing to women than to men perhaps, but a fine movie nonetheless.

7/10

Why so?

It's a communal relationship piece (of subtle magic!). Great character development, especially the femmes, who the story is about.
VERY good story and film!

Excellent film! I don't remember where I got the recommendation for this one, but it's been in my Netflix queue forever and finally received it and watched it. Brilliant character development. The only thing it left me wanting to know was Antonia's story between the war and returning to the village with Danielle. I'm going to watch it again with my wife and I'll see if there's something I missed in that regard. Nevertheless, wonderful story as told.

BTW I really don't see the fuss about this film in other threads over sexism, reverse sexism, etc. Plenty of matriarchal families all over the world and this was a touching story that used one as a vehicle. And that's coming from another middle-aged family guy in the heart of conservative North America.

I'm really surprised there isn't more discussion of this film on IMDb.
