All the what-ifs

What if Miep had read Anne's diary after she rescued it from the hiding place? She herself said if she'd read it she would have had to burn it because it was too dangerous for her and the other people who had helped the Franks.

What if Otto Frank had moved his family to Switzerland, where his relatives lived, instead of to Holland? He felt that since Germany had respected Holland's neutrality in World War I, they would do so again. Yeah, right. By the time Mr. Frank realized they were no longer safe in Holland, it was too late to leave.

What if he'd decided not to publish Anne's diary? It took him weeks to read it after Miep gave it to him, because he was so emotional and grieving.

I have loved the Diary since I first read it as a teenager.

The thing is think of this, if you were a jew during WW2 and your entire family died and your friend found your daughters diary and you read it, it would definatly be emotional and grieving! Now what if Anne Frank was actually alive...that would be really cool. I think they did an Unsolved Mystery on that topic...saying how a girl who looked exactly like Anne, even had the same scars on her feet that Anne did, was at a refugee camp or something...I never seen the episode, but my father told me about it a few years back.

Also what if Anne had known her dad was still alive? Her friend Hanneli Goslar said that Anne might've fought harder to survive if she'd known. She thought he was sent to the gas chambers in Auschwitz, her mom was in the camp hospital, and Margot ended up dying of typhus in Bergen Belsen.

Right before the borders closed, Otto's cousin in England asked him to send the girls to her, but Otto told Milly that he and Edith could not bear to be parted from them. I often wonder what would have happened if they had gone. For a good account of Otto and his family and what happened read The Hidden Life of Otto Frank by Carol Ann Lee. I just finished rereading it.
