The movie Sidekicks has similarities to Angus. The young boy Barry in Sidekicks is a social outcast in his school like Angus and has an interest in Martial Arts much like Angus' interest in Football. Both movies contain a mentor figure as well. Chuck Norris acts as Barry's mentor much like Angus' Grandfather to give the boys the confidence to stop being so hard on themselves. In addition, both explore health issues. Barry has asthema while Angus struggles with a weight problem. The equal to a best friend character like Troy in Angus is missing from Sidekicks but there is a love interest/friend of Barry's named Lauren in Sidekicks much like Melissa is to Angus. Barry's father is also a widower similar to Angus' widowed mother.
Sidekicks is a pretty sh *tty movie, but funny because of the cheese factor.
