A nice change for mental illness in film

I just watched this movie. I had to download a ripped DVD copy because it is not available in the US - if it were, I'd buy it. I was really happy to see a non-superficial, non cutesy, over-the-top take on mental illness. This movie did a great job of showing the life of people with mental illness and their siblings. That's not to say that these are the only people who can enjoy the film. It's quite good and very real.

I read another review of this film that said it was no good, and boring, and nowhere near as good as Benny & Joon. Ok, B&J was "cute", but it was not a accurate portrayal of mental illness. It was a sanitized, cutesy, Hollywood version. I did enjoy that movie somehwhat, but it was not realistic. Angel Baby, is one of the few films to paint mental illness in a fairly realistic light, and that puts it into a completely different category than Benny & Joon. The two cannot even be compared.

Though I think this film is good for anyone to see, it I think it really touches a chord with those of us who have a family member who is schizophrenic.

Note: I have heard Revolution #9 is also a good film that deals with schizophrenia.
