Any chance of Am Pres 2?

Dear Rob and Aaron, I love this movie soooo much! I'd give a lot to see a follow up (granted, too much time has passed to cast the same girl as Lucy Shepard, but I'm sure you can work around that). Imagine, a White House wedding with Michael Douglas and Ms. Bening, Hollywood style, and since right now we have a true nitwit in the White House, where better than Hollywood to get what America truly needs right now, the brilliant direction and writing of you two and the near-certain patriotic shot-in-the-arm a movie like this could give us (all of us John Q. Publics) given your BRILLIANCE! We were left at the end of The American President hoping for a wedding, hoping for a crime bill that made sense, hoping for real help for the environment. I realize some time has passed, but I'd give a lot to see an American President 2. Besides, Lord knows, far lesser films have had sequels... please consider my plea! Thoughts from anyone else?

It already happened, The West Wing.

They could actually do one now, 20 years after the original -- 16-15 years after Shepherd left office.

They could have Sydney now running for office herself. Obviously this would be very uncomfortable because of the DIRECT similarity with Hillary Clinton, which they were somewhat trying to avoid in the original movie.

OR ... they could have Lucy Shepherd now running for office. She was 13-14 in the original movie, so she would be about 30 now.

Wait, what?!?! They were trying to avoid a Sydney/Hillary comparison?!?!

I think it would be great to set a precedent, albeit fictional. Who better to play the role of First Gentleman? Show 'em how it's done, Andy!! And Sydney - well, they'd need to add a touch of gravitas to her, but I'm in!

This is one of my favorite movies, too. But I think the time has passed for a sequel. Maybe way in the future. But right now, it's all about cgi and transformers and boogey men.

Sydney Wade-Shepherd running for President;

Andrew Shepherd as First Gentleman;

Lucy Shepherd as U.S. Representative from Wisconsin;

Bob Rumson as TV Commentator on the Freedom Liberty Network.

Want Trump out of office first before they make it

SNL was running sketches with 'bill' saying how much he loved the original movie. They loved him if the worst the did to him was have him review this movie about a dating president.

Yes I liked the movie too. W trump in office though it would not feel right. Reiner is a Democrat. It's not meant to support Trump...etc's white house. Andy Shepard who has a college transcript with women's studies (albeit a c-minus) is a Democrat.

reply

Absolutely. There is nothing dignified, romantic or heartwarming about the White House right now. Seeing films about an imaginary good President might even be depressing. Walk out of the theater and we’re still stuck with Trump.

However, I like the idea of Sydney running or already being elected President. Maybe she can be the widow this time - I know, sad but hear me out - and date an ordinary guy.
