So, was Injun Joe actually there in the woods scene or not?

The one scene where Injun Joe threatens Tom in the woods and goads the boy into trying to kill him with his own knife.

I've always wondered if Injun Joe was actually there, or if it was just a nightmare Tom had in the woods or something. Especially since Injun Joe vanished out of thin air after threatening Tom. Also, the music that plays during the scene is called "Tom's Nightmare" on the official soundtrack. Making it even more mysterious.

It’s been years since I’ve seen this movie, but I’m pretty sure Injun Joe was meant to have actually appeared to Tom. When Tom goes to testify in court, you can tell by the way Injun Joe looks at Tom that he knows that Tom knows what really happened, and he has the look of sheer intimidation in his eyes. Plus he gave him back his marble.

I’ve always believed that the music that plays is just Injun Joe’s theme for the movie, like it plays when he’s onscreen or when he’s about to do something menacing. We also hear it just before he meets Doc Robinson at the beginning of the movie and that’s obviously not a dream sequence.
