The mud scene

For the part where Tom and Huck are covered in mud so that Injun Joe doesn't see them, does anyone think it was odd that Thomas had on his baggy pants covered in mud, but Renfro appeared to be only in his underwear? Maybe I am reading too much into it, but that says to me that JTT's "people" (parents, guardians, representatives' agents, consultants, managers) were there to advocate for him and to say, "No, JTT is not doing this scene in his underwear", whereas Renfro did not have anyone to speak up for him. The director of this film says he vaguely remembers meeting Renfro's grandmother, who was raising him and had legal custody at the time, but that for the most part Renfro was on his own.

I think it's been widely reported that there were numerous instances of this type of thing happening in his career, so it wouldn't surprise me.
