Anybody feel a little sorry for Injun Joe?

I mean, when you consider the sort of prejudice he'd have to grow up with, being a half-breed, it's no wonder he became such a nasty piece of work.

Plenty of people grow up with prejudice and DON'T become murderers, so no... I don't feel sorry for him.

Witty closing remarks have been replaced by massive head trauma and severe hemorrhaging.

Thing is, Twain makes Injun Joe out to be a feared member of the community, so even though he's a half-breed he's probably not a victim of prejudice in the way that, say, Jim in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is. Injun Joe is simply a great villain... not necessarily a human villain, but you can't have 'em like that all the time.

He was a thoroughly despicable character and a backstabbing liar. I didn't feel sorry for him in the least when he fell into that hole in the cave. And I'm part Choctaw, myself!

reply

If I felt sorry for anybody it would be Muff Potter. Can you imagine being blamed for something you didn't do and then watching a gallows being built outside your jail cell?

reply

And enduring all those SLIMES taunting him about being worthless and sentenced to death. Poor Muff!

Injun Joe is a terrific villain I think.

I feel awful for the actor, Eric Schweig, and his horrible childhood. So sad. :-(
