Anyone else prefer this to Ace Ventura 1?

i love the first one don't get me wrong.....it's hilarious and a classic. However, if I am forced to choose between the first one and the second one, I think I like the second one a little more. It's much funnier to me and some of my favorite comedic movie scenes come out of the second one. I know most people prefer the first one, though, but I know I can't be the only one to like the second one more!

you are not a beautiful and unique snowflake.

I do. I like this one far better.

AV1 had a more solid storyline. But give me AV2 anyday. It's more funnier, more wacky, has more classic memorable skits, and has better repeat watching appeal.

AV2 for me. Allrighty Then and a Bumble Bee Tuna to you. Psst... your balls are showing.

Didn't like the first one; still find the second one hilarious. Spears in his thighs are awesome, as is the bizarre bit when he asks his friend to turn out the lights, then starts scrambling around on the floor as if it's dark!

The rhino.

That is all.

Glad to see I am not the only one that has this opinion.

It shouldn't shock me anymore to notice that I am in the very tiny minority with my opinions, but I can't figure out how so many people always seem to have such a bad taste that the masses almost always hate something I like, or vice versa..

(for example, I never saw what was so wrong about Cars 2 - I watched it without reading any reviews or comments, so I was really shocked when, after being thoroughly entertained by a solid, interesting plot (with a nice twist, too!), beautiful sceneries, great characters and funny humor, plus all that exciting spy stuff, and Michael Caine - coming to the internet to read some reviews and expecting people to praise it or at least tell how much better it was than the plotless and storyless first Cars, and bumping only to hatred and descriptions how awful it was. What? And the CONSENSUS all over the internet, no matter what youtube video you watch or blog you read, is that it's OBVIOUS that the movie is somehow awful, below par, horrible, etc.. I can't understand that, for the life of me)

..but it does shock me a little bit.

Ace Ventura movies are a bit like the original Star Wars; the first one is 'good' or 'OK', but a bit groan-inducing and childish at parts, and boring at others, and the second film is where everything clicks together and brings us the best of what the potential has to offer.

I rate these movies - after all, they are comedies - mostly on the basis of how funny they are.

I saw them in the order of "Pet Detective", "Nature Calls" and then I saw "Liar, Liar".

Each movie made me laugh a lot, and the next movie always made me laugh more than the previous one. So at the time I watched "Nature Calls", it was the funniest experience.

And suddenly people are saying that the first one is somehow better. What? What's not 'solid' about this movie's story anyway?

Regardless of how 'solid' the story, plot or structure is, the first movie takes itself a bit too seriously, and it has some nonsensical bits. The whole 'asylum' bit was a bit corny and boring, and the 'Ray Finkle's homestead with the crazy parents' bit was pretty much disturbing instead of funny.

A comedy shouldn't have a horror movie in the middle of it. A comedy should be funny.

In the scale of funniness, "Liar, Liar" is the best, "Nature Calls" is a good second. "Pet Detective" has its funny moments, but it's not -as- funny.

Jim Carrey was just beginning his Carreer (ok, a bad pun), when 'Pet Detective' came out, and you can see that it's not yet the solid comedy we can expect from Carrey. It's like the first movie is still trying to find its footing, while this second movie is more confident as to what it wants to achieve.

Maybe I am biased by my experience and nostalgy, but the funniness dictates the value of comedy, and "Liar, Liar" offers the most of that value, "Nature Calls" comes second, and "Pet Detective" gives a good effort, but doesn't quite reach it. It's entertaining, but not as funny.

It's also a 'larger movie', having more traveling and more exotic locations and outdoor scenes, and so on. It feels more 'epic' than just some detective driving around in his crappy car around a tiny area of some boring town. It has jungle adventure and a plethora of animals and expensive mansions and african tribes and it doesn't have some ridiculous, promiscuous tranny as the villain (she was such an awful actor, too.. it makes me cringe every time she 'delivers' her lines).

Anyway, yes. I definitely prefer 'Nature Calls' to 'Pet Detective'.
