If done right this show could have made one hell of a movie.
I'm surprised that no one by now has either tried making another TV version of
this show or tried to make a film based on it.

Why did the chicken cross the road?

They did make a move, it was called The Matrix

The matrix is a totally different story from VR5.
There's very little resemblance between this and VR5.
