Why did Sydney have to move to the loft in ep. 2?

If I recall correctly, from when I watched it when I was in my early teens, the reason why was because her apartment caught on fire and half of it burnt down. This resulted her in relocating into a new apartment and rebuilding her computer system due to fire damage. I could be wrong, of course, since it was a while ago when I saw it.
