They were on the other side of the galaxy, they needed crewmates.. and in later episodes, you see the tensions between them..!

Being 70 plus years away from Earth, it make perfect sense to join crews.

There should have been two crews. We could have seen things from both perspectives.

Ah but then we wouldn’t have had Seska’s revolt, which for me was one of the best storylines of the series.

I liked the union of Maquis and Starfleet just as it was.
