Neelix's absurd cooking pots

What cook has pots up to his neck?

As well as being impractical, it's an accident waiting to happen.

I always hoped the writers were setting us up for a major kitchen accident that incinerated the Tallaxian goofball once and for all.

Alas, no.

Why didn't they get rid of that character? Nobody liked him, and he had nothing to do, as the Doctor took over his intended role as comic relief.

Honestly, that show would have benefitted from a "Red Wedding" bloodbath episode, where they got rid of all the characters the writers didn't know what to do with, and brought on some new people who might have been more popular.

reply

STFU ....Neelix was a great character. He had the biggest heart on Voyager...

reply

Neelix sucked! He was basically the Jar Jar of that ship. When it came to him, I was basically Tuvok.

reply

What are you talking about? Neelix was a well loved character.

reply

Well, it's nice that two people liked him.

I've heard that the actor was very disappointed that the character didn't get more to do and never developed beyond the slightly-funny sidekick level, but he thought that a steady paycheck was a steady paycheck.

reply

I liked the Neelix and Tuvox shows but your right the pots were absurd.

reply

Why do people hate Neelix so much? He was invaluable to the crew because he knew that region of space, among other things, but people bash on him based on his appearance and personality.

Kes was actually the character I despised more, because everything to do with Jennifer Lien is poison. She's been in prison several times, she's a CRIMINAL!

reply

Neelix was great. Watching Voyager a second time right now and I like him more than when it initially aired. He was the heart of the Voyager crew. Sure he was annoying but he was their emotional support. I dont know much about Jennifer's problems but I never liked the Kes character. Not really her fault. Seven was more likeable her first episode.

I always thought that the giant boiling cauldrons were intentionally absurd to bring contrast to the neat tidy replicators that they were supposed to be living on. Instead they have this overblown kitchen with Macbeth style fog pouring out of the kettles and "eye of newt" recipes. It was allegory for the conditions they found themselves in while in the Delta quadrant.

reply

Fair point.

I forgot to mention the huge flames heating the pots up.

Has Health and safety been abandoned in the 24th century?

reply

Ha, I forgot about the big flames licking up the sides of the pots. LOL

It's like, even with all the Academy taught physics and technobabble, they couldn't figure out a way to get more oxygen to the fuel? I'm surprised they didn't go ahead and make them campfires.

Has Health and safety been abandoned in the 24th century?

Another interesting observation. Like the fact that they don't have seatbelts anywhere. Especially on the shuttles. How many times have we seen a shuttle accident and someone knocked out cold?

reply

Yeah, this.

They were supposed to be 'roughing it.'

They clearly weren't though.
