Star Trek Actors

Many Star Trek shows are good and the actors try hard and succeed.

I thought a black Vulcan was stupid as the same dynamics that create black people aren't going to happen everywhere. Plus it seemed like SJW stuff that was just beginning back then. HOWEVER, the actor was the best next to Nimoy in portraying a Vulcan. He did a great job!

But, I can't remember the actor's name nor have I seen him since.

Even the original cast, never really acted again. It seems that although the shows are good and people love them, the actors have no career in acting after the shows end.

Why do you think that is?

reply

As hot as Vulcan is, you’d think they’d all have dark skin.

reply

Yes, I think they actually have a gold tone to their skin. I believe Spock had it but the camera didn't pick it up well.

Anyway, since Vulcan is very hot, and the average person isn't black, then where would the black people live? It would be a furnace.

The actor's name is Tim Russ and, as you said, he did a good job portraying Tuvok.

I do find it a bit odd that you can suspend disbelief enough to accept that any alien would be similar in appearance, speech and body-shape to a human, but not that this imaginary humanoid race could have a variety of skin tones. In any case, Russ certainly wasn't the first black actor to portray a Vulcan. In Star Trek V (1989) the Vulcan Priestess was played by Beverly Hart who is an African American actress. Many Vulcan extras have also been black, so it predates SJW somewhat more than you suggested.

As for why Star Trek actors often don't go on to bigger things, I agree it's certainly curious. Perhaps as popular and well-loved as Star Trek is, it is still somewhat niche viewing, and therefore not the greatest draw-card for future casting agents. It's always a bit of a thrill when you do see one of your favourites in something new though.

The description of Vulcan makes it seem like if everyone isn't black, then no one would be.

Plus, Vulcans have elf or devil like features and the black actors are very far from that look. I have seen people from Ethiopia who look like that. They are supposed to be mixed with white people from ancient Egypt, but I'm sure there aren't a lot of those actors around.

Anyway, he was the first with a BIG PART in a show and he was great.

Yes, I just saw him in I think Altered Carbon, and he had a small part.

When I'm talking parts, it's the film industry that determines who gets roles, not viewers. I would think that someone would notice these like and see they did a great job.

I love the show Supernatural and the actors do a great job and the show has been on a long time. BUT none of them are famous! It is going off this year and I have a feeling they will disappear.

It used to be the same way with Doctor Who, once an actor appeared as either a Doctor or companion, that was pretty much the last you heard of them unless it was in relation to Doctor Who. It has shifted now though, and actors like David Tennant, Matt Smith, Billie Piper, Karen Gillan, Jenna Coleman etc. have all had continued success after the show. Hopefully it's the same for the Supernatural cast and you can continue to enjoy them in future productions after the show wraps up.

Tom Baker should be extremely famous.

He was GREAT as the Doctor and he is the most famous and favorite of people who have seen a lot of the series. Meanwhile, he was on just about nothing.

Jensen Ackles is an actor on that show and he has been doing a great job for a long time. Supernatural is a witty comedy adventure show and he's great. I could picture him having a Clint Eastwood type of career, but I'll bet he has none.

And, for whatever reason, the CW doesn't promote their actors and they have a lot of good ones.

Well - some actors from STTNG did pretty well later on - Captain and the android.
I think DS9 had a good cast, but yeah - none of them did much after the series ended.
Enterprise had captain who was already an established star. The Vulcan chick in that one had potential - greater potential than Tuvoc actor by far - but yeah, she hasn't had much work since.

His name is Tim Russ, and he's actually done some other work besides "Voyager," including voice acting. Believe it or not, Vulcan's sun is very intense, and I would not be surprised if that alien race's skintones varied as much as ours. I've seen other Vulcans of varying skintones as well, not just him.

Tim Russ is still acting. He was just on a TV series last year. Can't remember off top of my head because it was one of the legal dramas my wife watches but I recognized him. Like Levar Burton he's gone really Gray.
