Disappointed of Seven of Nine

When she was the drone Borg, I felt she showed too much emotions. The Borg is suppose to be devoided of any emotions or feelings. Just look at Picard when he was Locutus. THAT is how a Borg drone is suppose to behave.

Firstly, you're confusing the Borg with Vulcans.

Secondly, Seven was a child when she was assimilated so in the circumstances where she was removed or disconnected from the hive, she would have experienced more anxiety and confusion.

reply

It was before she was disconnected from the Hive. But you're right about the other thing.

reply

Wasn't there an episode in which her fellow "of Nines" were disconnected from their unimatrix and she freaked out and re-assimilated them? I think Seven was a special case. The Borg Queen always placed special value on her, and I think it had something to do with Seven's human emotions.

reply

I prefer Locutus. Cold and calculating.

reply

I think the case with Picard was way different. The Borg intended to break Picard and make him Locutus, and that's exactly what they did. Picard even admits this after he's saved and restored back to his human appearance. I think it was after he was mudwrestling with his eldest brother.

Seven on the other hand seemed to take to the life easily. So she didn't mind it all that much. She also had much more time as a borg, so she had adapted to that way of life. And again, her purpose was not to be like any other drone. It was meant to be more of an experiment of the Queen's. Kind of like how she treated Data in the movie.

reply

It's worth remembering that Picard was pretty stoic and blank even as a human. Whenever Seven's humanity asserted itself, she was basically returning to her childhood (when she was assimilated) so she was always bound to be more emotional.

Frankly, I'm amazed Seven didn't eventually go on to have a serious break down. The episode with her implant not allowing her to love alluded to the face that her implants were keeping her together psychologically.

Good points.

she was kind of a suped up drone as she had to
have some autonomy to interact in so many different ways with the voyager crew whereas picard was just saying what the collective thought

I quite liked Voyager until it became The Seven of Nine show.

Laugh while you can, Monkey Boy!

From a series perspective, Seven's role was short compared to other characters because she joined up in season 4 of 7. She did get a few more personal episodes than people like Neelix or maybe even Chakotay, but other characters were given plenty of screen time as well as personal episodes. The character with the least amount of time was probably Kes due to her being written out in season 4. Seven's role just seems to dominate because all of her episodes had to be crammed into four seasons, where everyone else could spread out over all seven seasons.

You make a good point.
