Almost finished S2, I don't get the hate.

I loved next generation, then I watched DS9 and loved it even more. However the first 2 seasons of both those shows were pretty rough apart from a few great episodes.
Voyager on the other hand had me hooked from the 2 part opener. Aside from a couple pretty bad episodes I've found the rest very entertaining and engaging, and am going through the episodes way quicker than the other shows first couple seasons.
So what's with all the hate? Im not talking about imdb specifically but I've just generally seen this series hated on. Does the show get worse? Or if im enjoying it from the start am I going to love it even more?

reply

It gets better as it goes, so if you liked the first 2 seasons, you'll really like (most of) the rest.

reply

Hi. I agree. I liked Voyager right away too. If you continue with the series, I think you will continue to enjoy it. Some people are unhappy with the introduction of Seven Of Nine later on, but her character is well written and isn't just a pretty face. Janeway is my favourite, even though some episodes write her a little crazy later on. After you have seen The Equinox in Season 6, have a think how you feel Janeway's character was handled. Overall, Voyager is a great show. Kate Mulgrew was a great Captain. :)

I disagree with the other posters:

Voyager starts OK, but in my opinion, it got worse with every season.

I am rewatching all episodes at the moment, and now i'm at S6: Unimatrix Zero. Season 6 is ok. Seasons 4 and 5 are the worst.

I'm just on my way up to Clavius.

I love Voyager. Almost all episodes are awesome. I'm currently watching through again and getting sad because I'm at season 7, over halfway through.

The Paris storyline was dumb and Chakotay being kept out of the loop was the beginning of the end for his character. No wonder Beltran hated the series so much.

reply

What was Chakotay kept out of?
"Beltran hated the series so much" citation please, or you just made this up.

reply

Janeway's plan to expose the spy.

Just Google "Beltran hated Voyager"

Season 7 is beyond over halfway through. It's done.

reply

I prefer Voyager once Seven arrives but season two is very good because it involves the only example of ongoing story telling in the whole show. The rest of the show is hugely episodic.

reply

I think voyager improved when seven was introduced.

reply

See . . . I think it went downhill after 7 was introduced b/c most of the focus was on 7. I just read the Robert Beltran article, and I understand why he was upset. Even back then, I wondered why the show was solely focused on big-breasted 7!

reply

The storylines of The Doc and Seven gaining/re-gaining humanity were present for their entire existences on the ship.

reply

Janeway was nice and doesn't appeal to mean folk.

Pay no attention to the "hatred." It's just from the whiny fanboy contingent who always have to scream the loudest on the internet when they dislike something and try to make it seem as if everyone agrees with them. I watched Voyager from beginning to end when it first ran, am catching up with it again on Heroes and Icons and love the show as much now as when it first aired. Yes, there were some stinkers, but that's true of any series.

IMDB, flagging ppl for bull💩 since 1995. 

reply

Voyager had more stinkers than any others, including Enterprise by default since that series didn't last long enough to have more bad episodes than Voyager.

The entire run of DS9 was a stinker.

reply

Would you like to back that up with at least one episode as an example?

reply

The one with Bashier being psychically attacked by an alien, which puts him into a coma where aspects of his personality are portrayed by people he knows on DS9 and when each ones dies he becomes more like an old man. Then the alien taunts him about how he gave up tennis and purposely gave up being the best in school. Yet as a decrepit old man Bashier is able to beat the alien that he could not beat when he was "young". And the method of beating it was so simple that it was laughable. The alien could teleport around and damage the "station" before, but then at the end it couldn't do anything but spit insults. Lame.

Compare that to say, when Janeway was put in critical condition and was approached by an alien entity who was trying to make her think she had died, and even assumed the form of her father to deceive her into giving up so her consciousness would be absorbed into his matrix. Way better episode.

That episode is excellent. It was a battle in Bashir's mind. There's nothing bad about that episode.

The fanBOYS still have an issue with a female captain. As much as Star Trek fans are generally progressive, there is definitely a subset that have the mindset of the Gamergate contingent that don't want girls in their club.

reply

Huh, that's weird. I dislike Janeway, but I still love Voyager as a show.

I don't mind a female captain per se, provided the character is good. Janeway's a decent character, even if I dislike her at times.

reply

provided the character is good

i found her written inconsistently. one episode she'll be willing to sacrifice her crew to avoid violating the prime directive, the next she'll walk all over the prime directive as it is 'inconvenient' for a ship so far from the Federation.
