Series Finale

What a missed opportunity for greatness.
They should have just started it out with a black screen with the words: MAYBE 75 YEARS IN THE FUTURE.....
Then a shot of some Starbase with the words THE EDGE OF FEDERATION TERITORY.
Then some tech, "We're being haied?"
"....can anybody hear us?"
"This is Starbase 56. Who is this?"
"This is the starship Voyager...."
Opening credits
Then tell the story of the children of the crew finally making it back. Maybe have one character from the series tell the story: the Doctor. He doesn't age.
Star fleet 'debriefs' him and we getting out what happened to the characters we know.
Instead, they played it safe and gave us a cliche happy ending.

That does actually sound quite cool.

I always liked the idea of using the Female Caretaker in some way to get home or having a final story arc around her. Besides that one early episode I was disappointed the writers just didn't bother to explore that further.

The Female Caretaker should have been featured in the series finale. What I would have liked to see is throughout the last season the Voyager keeps on getting information from either the locals or from their own readings about the Female Caretaker having been in the space the Voyager is traveling in sometime in the past (like three weeks or a month, etc.). Janeway and company continue on their journey heading home but are also on the trail of the Female Caretaker to try to see if she can send them home. Janeway and her crew think since they haven't had any encounters with her since season 2 that maybe she has had a change of heart.

The series finale could have had the Voyager catching up with the Female Caretaker but are horrified to see the Caretaker being overrun by the Borg (I also would have made this season where the Voyager crew hasn't heard anything from the Borg all year either until now.) The crew help the Caretaker (perhaps defeating the Borg for good) and the she realizes the Voyager crew were never a threat or harmful to her after years of traveling. She sends Janeway and company home finally as an act of kindness for helping her defeat the Borg.

The ending could have been the crew back on Earth in civilian clothes at their welcome back party, then Janeway and the rest of the senior staff, holding glasses of wine, give a toast to each other and are looking out in the sky at the stars.

What if the series finale had them traveling back to Ocampa? They'd have to start their journey allover. Maybe the captain and crew would start off with a renewed sense of adventure.

reply

Or they could have had Voyager back home early in the episode and used the time to show the family breaking up and going their separate ways.

"He's dusted, busted and disgusted, but he's ok"

The crew running into the Kazon again..........That'll be fun.

If they had to start their journey all over again, I think a lot of the crew would have killed themselves.

reply

I thought they would have aged better in their time frame. I guess though their long journey added much stress to their lives.
