"The Angriest Angel" is my favorite hour of TV EVER. I've gotten through some bad times re-watching that ep and reciting McQueen's dialogue out-loud.
"Ray Butts" is my second favorite episode. Johnny Cash is GOD. Johnny Cash in a Sci-Fi war show? Brilliant.
Nice use of Patsy Cline n "Never No More".
Oh and the final episode "Tell Our Moms we Did Our Best" is brilliant and now after all these years (and I'm no longer bitter how FOX sabatuged the show) it now works as a "war is tragic and never ending" - thematic ending for the series.
Paul's heroic death always brings me to tears. I love how he shouts out "This is for...." and names all the marines who died throughout the series.
All in all a great show. Even the earlier weak episodes are better then most people claim. At least they didn't waste scream time showing AI's boinkin' ALA Galactica reboot. (Which was Space: AAB with sex)
Sure you can nitpick the having Marines who fly and fight on foot, Hawkes long hair early on etc. It was still ahead of it's time and would have been a hit today IMO.
