John Rhys-Davies Says He’s Been Talking to NBC About Potentially Reviving “Sliders”

“Jerry had been pestering me for a number of years and we’re actually talking to NBC at the moment to see if there’s any possibility of rebooting the series,” Davies said at the event, Flickering Myth informs us today. “They’re looking into the basic question of who actually owns it? At the moment we don’t seem to be able to find that out.”

He continued, “I would do it again, if just to show how it should be done. It could have been the best show on television, it could still be on the air. I think maybe if we got another chance at doing it with the new technology, but also new stories, I think we could do something quite extraordinary. I wouldn’t want to do it for the rest of my life, but I would do it for a season or two if it was right.”

Theoretically he could pull it off. It never was clarified which Arturo went through that wormhole. But you have to bring back Quinn. Mallory just didn't cut it.

I’d like to see it! At least it’s real science-fiction, unlike that stupid Quantum Leap.

Lol

I would say let's start a petition or gofundme, if it was an option but I rather see it done with belief in the series than a half assed promise to fans.

Honestly don't think anyone cares

Definitely got to recast everyone, or maybe steal the multiple dimensions idea and have someone's new vision come to life

I agree it should be remade but not with John Rhys-Davies in mind or if thats what he intended.

I can't watch this third season, season 1 & 2 are silly sometimes but fun to watch , after that this version i have has universal logo in the intro to every episode in 3rd season and it seems the budget is bigger for set costumes and stuff but it lacks what made it fun in the first place.

He quit the show in the first place!

reply

He only seems to have quit bc of network interference, which grew in season 3, on set mainly by the new producer hostile to science fiction. This resulted in many issues, including the lowering of quality, which Rhys-Davies spoke out against.

There are also credible claims that he didn't quit at all, but was fired because of his vocal criticism of the writing of the show. For instance, this interview with Cleavant Derricks https://earthprime.com/interviews/cleavant-derricks

If they could do the series without almost every episode having the Cromags, or that they were everywhere, it could be fun to watch.

I would watch if they got back Rhys-Davies and Jerry but I´ve heard Jerry has been trying to revive it for almost 10 years. Kinda hard to see it happening.

He put out a Kickstarter campaign that fell short of its funding goal. Here's the pitch:

This wont ever happen.

I'm surprised they had as many seasons of the original show as they did, as long as they don't run out of ideas and get some great scenarios in. They can even copy from Stargate a little bit and have an earth near a black hole, and time goes all crazy.

If the Quantum Leap reboot takes off, then there is a chance someone with some clout may look at Sliders and go "hmmmmm??"

reply

A reboot with a new cast possibly but I think the fans want closure to the original series with original cast members. Would you watch it if only Jerry came back? I dont think I would.
