Will Funimation mess this up?

Now that Funimation has set a release date for this. For those who do dot know they bought the rights to the Slayers after Software Sculpters' rights expired.

I am just worried that they will do the same thing as DBZ or have it butchered like the DBZ HD stuff. Anyone else?

reply

Wait..what? Are they redubbing it?

reply

I will forever be a fan of the Software Sculptors version (Is watching it right now). Funimation is going to Re-Dub parts of it and I don't have the heart to see that. and they might turn the opening and closing into english like they're so fond of doing...the only perk to it is I'm getting off my @$$ and getting the original Next and Try before I can't find them anymore.

reply

If they can do what they did to Yu Yu Hakusho, I'll be happy. Meaning that they keep the original music, opening themes and ending themes (although with someone seeing adapted lyrics). I'll be looking for it.

I'm gonna get you, like a spaceboy. Whoa whoa whoa whoa!!!

reply

Well, Funimation did a decent job with FMA, I suppose this one is do-able. In a strange way, I can kinda picture Gourry with Chris Sabat's "Yamcha" voice.

Personally, I like Liza Ortiz of Lina, her voice fits the character very well.

all they did was re-release the DVD sets in much better DVD formats.. with *gasp* chapters this time! Its the exact same as the original release.

Funimation is going to re-dub parts of it? That's something I can't quite picture happening, and frankly hope doesn't happen. I mean they are right now completing the releases of KARIN, BLACK LAGOON and HELLSING ULTIMATE, and for each show they're using the same English cast that was used by Geneon.

If they were going to change anything about the original dub, I'd hope the only thing they'd change would be to have Veronica Taylor come back and do the voice of Amelia for the first three episodes. The first person to do Amelia's voice was Jody Baker, and good God, she was irritating. (And this is coming from a guy who as a rule actually prefers dubs over subtitles.)

reply

Jodie Baker was a terrible Amelia, this is very true, just as David Moo was a terrible Xellos. Thank God they replaced Baker with Veronica Taylor.

reply

David Moo was an awesome Xellos! Now that is a secret!

reply

You have got to be kidding. David Moo was a terrible Xellos. Anyone with a voice like that should have his tongue cut out.

reply

Jodie Baker was actually fitting as Amelia. I preferred her voice over Veronica's. My issue was her direction. It was too chaotic and she just needed to tone it down a notch and then would have been fine. Veronica had the better ACTING but Jodie had the better voice in my opinion. Veronica's May voice from Pokémon just didn't cut it for me. Amelia's image to me has me seeing her sound more plumped and bafoonish and Jodie had the right voice for that.

I never did understand why they never re-dubbed the three episodes Jodie did with Veronica before the episodes aired since it was only three episodes and seems like a waste to keep those in tact and Jodie had already left the show long before the episodes aired and it'll just seem awkward to hear a change so soon.

reply

Jodie was fine, she just needed better direction. The acting was irritating but the voice overall was fitting. I preferred it over Veronica's voice.

reply

Only if you prefer a voice that sounds like nails being scraped on a chalkboard as was the case with Jodi's voice.

reply

You replied to the wrong comment. My reply to you was two paragraphs longer going more in depth on the matter. Jodie's voice was too hyped, but had it been calmer it would have been a fine performance. I prefer the overall VOICE better than Veronica's though Veronica's ACTING was better.
