I tried three times to watch this show and I always get sidetracked by work/activities etc
It's a bit of an arduous task.
IMO, if the film is as good as they say it is, it's probably better watching that instead. Bit like Twin Peaks: FWWM, something that can stand on its on two feet.
The film (End of Evangelion) is the ending of the series. It picks up where ep. 24 leaves off and runs (roughly) concurrently with ep. 25-26. You won't have any idea what's going on without having seen the series.
