Given the hype surrounding Anno's new film SHIN GOJIRA, it seemed like a good idea to revisit this series.I'm so glad I did.

It's possibly the single most complex, bizarre, thoughtful and impactful animated series I've ever seen. No other series has ever come as close to dealing with the themes of loneliness, depression, self-worth and general acceptance as a member of the human race as well as this one does. It's brutally honest in ways one couldn't even begin to imagine and manages to be simultaneously nihilistically brutal and deeply uplifting. Oh, and its got big things fighting each other. That's important too.

 Pretty much completely agree. There's a reason it still tops my list as the greatest work of visual fiction I've ever witnessed, and it isn't for a lack of experience!
