A Question About the Series

I'm very picky about my anime and only like certain types, I absolutely hate the kiddy crap that is so common in anime like Dragonball Z. Does this have any of that?

It would depend on precisely what you'd consider "kiddie crap." Evangelion does avail itself of a lot of anime cliches that it subverts in the second half and film because the series was designed to be, in part, a critique of anime and Otaku culture. So while there is stuff that some might consider "kiddie crap" like the robots battling aliens that seem cliche early on, and some occasional slapstick/lowbrow humor, most of these elements take on deeper, allegorical implications as the series progresses.

There's a reason I think it's one of the supreme artistic masterpieces of the 20th century, and if you look at my favorite films list (profile) you may notice I don't have much of a taste for "kiddie crap."

No that's not what I meant by kiddie crap. Thanks.

Chibi Record of Lodoss War (TV show) it ain't. The humor (when it's there) is really funny. And some of the humor is fairly adult. Some we may not totally 'get'. Overall, there really is nothing 'kiddie' about Evangelion. It more about Shinji growing up while unbeknownst to half the cast, the end of the world is quickly approaching. there's a lot of Biblical and Koran influences, (which is what makes it so good and controversial), and the further into the series, the more mature the characters become and as secrets are revealed, as well as our main (really weak) hero Shinji. You'll have questions watching the show, which of some will never be answered. But the whole basis of the show is very cerebral and thought provoking throughout while having drops of humor as some of the action takes place.

Your post is a bit old... and I apologize about my late response.
Hope you tried the series!
