In the U.S., this originally aired on A&E.

When it was the Arts and entertainment, network. When the channel showed high brow, classical productions, now it has shows like "Duck Dynasty", and Ice Road Truckers". Entertainment, yes, but Arts, no.

Yeah, it makes me sad that I used to watch A&E, History and Syfy (back when it was Sci-Fi) all the time and now hardly at all because there's so much crap on them. Ditto TLC. I get that channels have to diversify, but not to the point where they totally lose touch with their entire original point and their programming becomes an incoherent mass of boring idiocy. It would be one thing if the reality shows were entertaining, but really (with isolated exceptions like Craig Ferguson's Join or Die), they're not.

Personally, I blame Bonnie Hammer for a lot of it.

We need a culture channel, and A&E was the one to bring that to the U.S. Also, PBS, but they're funds mainly come from left leaning donars, and it shows in their programming. I'm interested in Acorn TV, is that only on the internet?

Acorn is available through a Roku. Not sure if it's available through Apple TV or Amazon Fire.

Can't help you there.

But a Roku stick or an Amazon Fire stick may be purchased for less than $50.

I have 2 Rokus (a stick and a "hockey puck") and today am buying myself a birthday gift - - an Apple TV. There are rumors going around that the BBC will start a streaming service in the US and that the only place to get it will be Apple TV. Right now in the UK, the BBC is available on Apple TV, so that makes sense.

That said, I like the idea that I can use Airplay to get videos from my iPad onto my TV. With Roku, I can "push" YouTube and Daily Motion videos, but that's it. And it's still hard to search. The Apple TV interface is a lot easier than the Roku, which I find can be rather clumsy at times.

Oh, and there's also Chromecast for people who want the ability to stream Netflix, Acorn, etc.
