What an excellent film!! Flora is not so cold and unemotional that she's an unrelatable automaton, but she's not so emotional and hysterical that you lose patience with her.

SPOILER!!!!!!Flora is not at all cold and unemotional! She has merely tamped down all that emotion and channeled it.
It is her love for Duncan and her supreme sense of betrayal that prompted her revenge. Simply sleeping with another woman might have earned him forgiveness. It his mistress' claims that she was "like a sister" that drove her over the edge, that and the realization that this was not one night stand but a one year affair.
Duncan would have had to tell his mistress this about Flora. And the relationship between Duncan and Flora in their sexual encounters shows that he expects her to be sensual, not cold. The scene where he she slaps him and he says"that's my girl".
Flora does prove that revenge is a dish best served up cold.
I thought it was more than the affair she was going after him over. I felt she was also doing it because he was narcissistic, dishonest and amoral and he had to be stopped because he was holding a government position that he shouldn't have had in the first place. He had no care or concern for children or families and everything he did was a game--he even called it a game.

I agree it was that, too. She even discussed it (speculatively, in the abstract) with Anton Lessor's character when she used the term "agent provocateur."

A one year affair that Duncan initiated, and during which he skipped a family vacation to spend a week in Antigua with his mistress. He also skipped his wife's birthday celebration, and declined to go to the hospital when his daughter's appendix burst (because he was having sex with said mistress all night in his London flat).
