Lack of research!

I was watching the episode where Pinky arranges a surprise birthday party for Brain and invites all the wrold's leaders icluding Bill Clinton (who wolfs down a pizza) and John Major (then then Prime Minister of Britain).

They get John Major's voice COMPLETELY wrong! In reality he spoke very nasally and 'little man' like, kind of like an English Hardy Har Har or one of these wimpy Don Messick-like voices, but in this episode of P&B they have him speaking in the predictable 'I say, don't you know old boy!' accent.

It kind of stuck out like a sore thumb in an otherwise very intelligent show.

Get a life. If you have the time to sit around and gripe about the inaccuracy of a cartoon, then perhaps you should spend some of that time with a dictionary, and fix the spelling errors in your post.

reply

No need to be nasty because you've got the safety of a message board between us.

I just thought it was a rather obvious goof that needed highlighting. There's no need to insult me.

By the way there are no spelling errors in my post either.

Too many people confuse opinion with fact. Stop me before I post again!

reply

All I was doing was pointing something out which was a very obvious mistake to me (as a Brit) so there's no need to jump down my throat.

reply

There's some evil people on here lol

reply

It's simply because they can get away with rudeness that would cost them a smack in the puss in'reall life'.

reply

No, it's because your post was really, really stupid.

And saying you would beat them up in real life is even worse.

reply

Of course I wouldn't beat them up - but SOME people might. That's the trouble with these message boards, it lets people be rude to anyone with impunity.

Also I don't really see how my post was stupid. I was just pointing out a glaring error that I wanted to get off my chest. Other folk are blowing it out of proportion.

reply

I know, those are the people that are stupid. I point out stuff like that too, and then people call me stupid or they just cuss me out. I think they need some mental help lol. But yeah I agree, these message boards let anybody be rude to another person and it's not right. Especially over something simple like a voice that was done wrong.

reply

It wouldn't have mattered if they'd done a generic Prime Minister, the thing was that they were caricaturizing world leaders and they opted for the strereotypical 'Briddish' accent. It just highlights how America (as a general rule) don't have much knowledge of stuff outwith America. England are the same about the rest of the United Kingdom. Anyone who has heard of John Major know he doesn't speak in an "I say old boy! Jolly good show, don't you know!" voice.

reply

ok chill everyone

I dunno what John Major sounds like (I'm a bit too young for that I think) but I can totally identify with why you might be annoyed. I'm not english but I do/did have an english accent and when I moved country people used to joke about it (really badly) to the point of me changing it. I guess alot of people unfamiliar with/outside of england think all english people have the same "har har jolly good" accent which pisses me off. (the people not the accent)

All I can say is maybe that was the inside joke, that PMJM didn't speak like that and they knew it, but made him a stereotype so the non-english would understand that this guy was from Britain.
heck I dunno but I'm getting the dvd so I'll watch that episode for myself and decide

- we interrupt this program to increase dramatic attention -

reply

It could've been the stupid censors making sure the show 'dumbed-down' a bit so people could get the joke or it may have been lax scripting. However, if you ever catch a popular puppet show from the 80s called Spitting Image I suggest you watch it! It had John Major (and scads of others) and his voice is very acurate and funny!

reply

it's okay Rory, you just came off a little angry for most people, that's all.

reply

Everyone's blowing this out of proportion. I'm sure if a British cartoon got some American details wrong we'd hear about it on some board.

reply

It is a cartoon.

reply

I know that. And Spitting Image was a puppet show, but they got the voices right.

reply

I haven't seen that episode, but then I guess if I watched it and listened to John Major's voice beforehand, I would be irritated. That's partly because I'm from the UK, though. Luckily there'll be enough viewers of the show now who wouldn't know much about John Major, including me, really, Tony Blair was the first Prime Minister I ever registered.
