Locations

I love this series! And am especially enamored of the locations where it was shot.

I've been to the Welsh country ones, in the Black Mountains, though I wonder where the town is, but I was really curious as to the location of the b&b near Hadrian's Wall and the nearby village where Oliver runs into Baxter and Baxter has an encounter with Diane Priest's son. Both look incredibly interesting, and I'd like to stay in the area on my next holiday, especially if that's a real b&b and not just a shooting location.

Any help?

I've found the village where Oliver runs into Baxter. The shop sign "Oriental Kitchens" in a side-street pointed me to Wooler, in Northumberland (right area for Hadrian's Wall) and Google Streetview confirmed that it was by the raised terrace where Redpath's General Store (now The Flower Basket) and The Terrace Coffee and Grill Bar (now The Terrace Cafe) are.

So maybe Mrs Robson's house is nearby.

I was on the boat to the Orkneys with the cast and crew. (I just happened to be. I didn't interact with them.) At one point I was sitting on the deck near Sinead Cusack and overheard her talking with someone about the mountains of Ireland. I afterwards passed by the filming of a scene where people were promenading in costume.

Ah, that would have been the scene where Oliver tells Diane about the legend of Magnus, at a re-enactment outside St Magnus's Cathedral in Kirkwall. It hasn't changed much between then and when we were there earlier this year - the craft shop seen in the background of that scene, that is owned by Judith Glue (a memorable name!) is still there.

Glad to hear that. Sounds right. I did see the series years later when it was on PBS.
