The ending ?

Hi..
I've never watched this show before, but im really excited to buy the DVD and watch it after reading all those positive reviews.
I have only one problem with this show, im worried that the final episode in season one doesn't give a closure or conclusion for the show, im afraid that because it was canceled, the show won't have an ending, can anyone clear that up for me and tell me if the final episode has a closure or conclusion to it or not ?

Thanks

Well...

Personally, I think the ending they created was fantastic. It avoided the route most televisions shows would have gone and did NOT supply much closure, which was completely within the spirit of the show itself. It does answer some questions, but... it's up to the individual viewer to decide if the answers are all that helpful.

I know there are a lot of people who disagree with me, but I don't believe they could have done a better job with the ending, considering the circumstances.

Watching the final episode, I got the feeling that the creators knew the show wasn't likely to be renewed. The DVD set, from what I understand, will have a featurette discussing where the show might have gone had it remained on the air.

Oh yeah, and don't let anyone spoil the specifics of the show for you. It will be that much better when you watch it.

It's been SO long since I've seen the last episode that I don't even remember how it ends. But I do remember that it kinda left me hanging. I remember thinking that I wasn't satisfied. But maybe I'll think differently when I get the dvd box set this weekend.

I'm not going to spoil this episode for anyone, but I'll tell you a story...

Ten years ago, I knew that the last episode of the season was going to be shown and I asked my mom if I could watch the show on her brand new 32" TV set, she said that'd be fine, even though she had never watched the show. Fortunately the opening titles did an excellent job of explaining the premise of the show, and I really didn't need to explain much of the show other than the main character had been trying to find out what was going on and who were behind this conspiracy the entire run of the show.

The show proceeded and at the end my jaw was on the floor and my mom said "That has to be the most intense hour of dramatic TV I've ever seen!". I replied, "The sad thing is I hear it has not been renewed."... She after seeing many excellent TV series cancelled wasn't particularly surprised, but she was as disappointed as I was.

Two things I can guarentee about the last episode... It's well worth watching, and it'll likely _really_ p!$$ you off that UPN canceled the show. Some 10 years later, it still p!$$es me off that UPN killed it. It remains the second highest rated show (After ST: Voyager) to ever air on UPN.

(In fact, after UPN cancelled Enterprise (just as it was hitting it's stride) I have _zero_ reason to watch UPN and wouldn't care if they closed shop. It's a shame network TV executives are always so quick to cancel a show and replace it with something that'll get a fraction of the ratings, then replace it with another show which get's a fraction of the second show's ratings, etc., but never bring back the first show.)

If I say anything more about Nowhere Man's final episode, I'll likely spoil the episode, perhaps even the entire series, for you. So I won't.

Fair enough?

Chuck

Well, you could read my other thread (warning, lots of mini-spoilers and definitely and ending spoiler; don't read it before watching the series tho' really... Save the ending for the end or it's not quite as potent a wrap-up), or I could just say, that amazingly enough the season 1 ending was a pretty good closure to the series. I just have to wonder whether they knew the end was coming and tried to tie up loose ends, or if they were trying for a cliffhanger resolution, that could have been explained away the next season. As it is, it's a moderately satisfying conclusion, though it does leave some interesting, difficult questions. So, maybe closure is the wrong word. It appears to all be somewhat explained, but on a bit of a dark note with "questions." Likely would have been explained further in season 2, but is fine as is. I think you'll like it if you watch the entire series all the way through. It's quite satisfying to rewatch it after 10 years. Aside from feeling oldER (since I was in high school when I first watched it). It stands up extremely well to the test of time (a testimony to good directing and acting and effects).

You must feel REALLY older now, 10 years after your post- I sure do! I was 24 when I first watched it during the original run, and I'm 44 now and just finished my 2nd viewing!  Sure glad I found it again though.

An argument can be made that the ending was perfect.

Meaning, it was not so much a cliffhanger as the final truth: Veil is himself a product of the imagination. He doesn't get to "win," and can never "win," because he doesn't even exist.

A show built on paranoia and deception turns out to be one huge false flag.

It may not be satisfying, but it is unarguably consistent.
