Occasional Wife

I read a lot of comments stating that Will & Grace is a ripoff of Ned and Stacey. Is anyone here old enough to remember a show from the 1960s called Occasional Wife? This show that lasted one season, from 1966-67. The premise was exactly the same--an aspiring executive needs to get married to move ahead. The only difference is that in the original show, they didn't actually get married or live together--it was the 60s, after all. As I recall, she lived upstairs and would sneak in and out through the fire escape when his boss made surprise visits.
Honestly, I didn't watch Ned and Stacey enough to get invested in it--I guess I'm one of those who associated Thomas Haden Church with Lowell--but I've loved watching Will & Grace. Yes, there are parallels between the two recent shows--the beautiful Debra Messing starred in both shows, her character's name had 'ace' in it. Note also that in Occasional Wife, the woman's name was Greta--a five-letter name beginning in 'Gr'--so Will & Grace is obviously a ripoff of that show too!

Anyone want to buy a bridge in Brooklyn? :-)

No, I'm not old enough to have watched that show, but yes I have HEARD of it....The most recent mention of it was in fact by the N&S writer himself. He credited that show "inspired" him to update the idea and put his own spin on it (and we ALL know what "INSPIRED" means in Hollywood-speak, don't we boys and girls?? *LOL*)

Watch the interview in Ned & Stacey season 1. It's all there....
