In the first season Hoffman hires a black woman as jury consultant, but she is never seen again, instead replaced by a white woman assistant. Where did the black actress go? Did she get another part which made her unavailable?

We were told that the first jury consultant lady had to take some 'personal time' due to an illness. The second jury consultant was the partner of the first one.
shareThat is the explanation given, but it seems like hasty rewrite to me. In that episode a lot of time and importance is given to picking the Jury consultant (I believe the actress playing her is Lorraine Toussaint) and her "assistant" appears in several subsequent episodes. It seems clear she was meant to appear in those episodes but for some reason the role was effectively recast with the introduction of the assistant. Anyone know why Lorraine Toussaint didn't appear afterwards?
shareIt could be she had to go back to Salt Lake City to finish filming "It Was Him or Us" or maybe it had something to do with her mother's health I believe her mother had and eventually succumbed to MS but not until 1999. I liked her when she played the public defender on "Law and Order" the first couple of seasons as Ms. Shambala Green.
I always thought that was strange as well, but that's Hollywood.
