I vaguely remember watching this as a kid and I have recently read the entire series of comics. Can someone tell me how far along the comic storyline (if at all) the series went before it ended?

I think you all misunderstood - how much of the comic storyline does the series follow before it ends - i.e. where does the TV series end (what issue of the comic book)?

The series follows the first 20 volumes of The Maxx. after that, it became a story arc about Sara years later.
shareIt goes up until julie leaves town, and to the poster who said that it is actually about julie not the maxx. It is actually all about Sarah, but you wouldn't know it from the TV show.

the shows follows the comic pretty well, minor changes nothing really major.
the 2nd arc isn't years later, but about 9 months........lets just say you find out why julie gains weight
The Sara story arc does infact take place about ten years later....

By the second story arc, Julie has had a child who was born after her story who is about 10 years old and come back in to town...
Sara is in her mid to late 20's
