The Mask TV Movie

Before the Animated Series an animated TV MOVIE was released called 'The Mask: Animated End'.

Has anybody seen this? There is a detailed description on Google but i cant find anywhere to watch it.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Never trust wikipedia or any fan-edited sites my friend. Anyone can write or edit lies into those things. That movie never existed. It's probably written by the same people who thought Adam Sandler did a guest appearance in Mask episode, "A Comedy of Eras"..which by the way, he didn't.

BTW have you read my fan-written Mask 2 screenplay yet? Hated Son of The Mask so much that I wrote a more direct sequel to the Jim Carrey classic and the story itself is based on several episodes from the animated series.

I've read a bit of it, sounds good so far!
Have you seen my fan-film sequel?

reply

Yes I have watched The Mask Strikes Back and loved it. Thought it was a fresh and interesting take of The Mask. Its a sequel, but its your own original take as well. I really like the idea of having two separate stories linked together in one film. I admire the home-made special effects and the UK Punk influence in the first half of the film (reminds me of how Chuck Russel was influenced by the 1930s jazz when he made the first one). Saw it when it was first released in the IMDB message board. 10 out of 10 from me.

Glad that you are enjoying my Mask sequel so far. I appreciate that. My sequel is pretty much the "X-Men 2" of the Mask franchise. It's a solid story that stays true to what Chuck Russell envisioned for the first film and more importantly, its a fun tale with a little seriousness to it. Unlike Son of The Mask, it goes back to exploring the two sides of one Stanley Ipkiss and Edge City itself. Expect to see lot of familiar faces from the first film (Yes, Peggy is back since her death scene didn't count) and surprise cameos of major and minor characters from the animated series.

Another IMDB member (a talented writer by the way) wrote a rough outline of the story and I pretty much fill in the gaps, made few changes and made into a full completed script. It's the ultimate Jim Carrey movie that never got made.

Without revealing too much, there is a scene in my story that pays homage to your fan-film sequel. Read on!

I'm really eager to hear what you think of the rest of the story! Thanks.

I just had to skim through it but i thought it was great!! The ending was obviously hugely influenced by the Animated Series but i really liked it and i thought your linked it in with the movie-follow-up story perfectly.

Your a really good script writer!

And by the way was the reference to my film the line: "I'm back baby!"?
Or was there something else i missed?

Good read!

reply

Actually the "I'm back baby!" line was taken from Bender in Futurama. The bit where Chet Mask extends his tongue to trip Mister Dickey (I think he did that twice in the story) was indeed the reference to your fan film. Even though your fan film had a bank manager as a villian, Dickey being the "Inside man" was more based on the idea that I wanted to have a "You never thought its him" betrayal scene in the story and turn a minor character from the first film into a major player in the sequel (similar to how Mayor Tilton was a minor character in the first film but he was a central character in this story).

Can't thank you enough for the compliments. Me and my co-writer were really proud of our script and we hope it is somehow adapted into a graphic novel since our story needs to be seen visually but hard to be adapted onscreen.

As a writer, the most fun part of writing the script is bringing the cartoon characters from the animated series and bringing them into the live-action Jim Carrey universe. There are few episodes from the series that would make great live-action sequels for The Mask. Split Personality is on top of that list.

What was your favourite scene and who was your favourite cameo appearance? For me, I really enjoy writing the dream sequence scene and my fave cameo scene is where we meet The Terrible Two (Doc and Eddie) for the first time.

I personally liked the scene where Tina put the Mask on!
That is something that should happen in a movie, even if its just short.

My favourite cameo, although you probably couldnt call it that, was Lonnie the Shark taking over one of the gangster/villain roles from Dorian. I liked it how you made it as if they were part of a gang together in the past.

reply

Glad you like the Tina Mask scene. I would say its probably the CRAZIEST bit in the whole story, even more impulsive than Ipkiss Mask himself. Obviously watched Bride of Pretorius to get inspiration for the last act.

The movie universe Lonnie is more grown up and sinister than his cartoon counterpart. I didn't want the main villian to pop out of nowhere so I created some history between him and Dorian and Niko's gang.

Again, thank you for spending time in reading the screenplay. Who knows? We may not see the end of Stanley Ipkiss. If Toy Story 3 brought back the '90s to the big screen, maybe we see Jim Carrey wear the mask again...in 3-D!
