Was it just my imagination, or did they appear to have an unspoken romantic interest with each other in the series?

But I wish she did for continuity purposes. The cartoon kinda suggested that they may have split-up, since cartoon Stanely was looking for other women.

Back to the original question, I'm not sure. It's been a while since I watched the series (still not on DVD) but I don't recall them having any romantic longing for one another, they were "just friends" as far as my memory goes.

i was always a bit annoyed by why they didnt have cameron diaz's character in the tv show.

i always thought they might have. i never undrestood though why they had peggy as the girl in the animated version and not cameron diaz's character since she was stanleys actual girlfriend after all, but in the show she just didnt exist.

I think they did that because the cartoon producers wanted The Mask to be more of a superhero than the Jim Carrey movie and the original comics and they made Peggy as the female lead as a possible homage to Lois Lane and Superman. In fact, Mask director Chuck Russell said Peggy from the movie is based on Lois.

Like you, I have no idea why they left out Tina and I thought it's a dumb move not to her in the series. If you watch the movie again, Tina is the reason why stanley keeps wearing the mask.

Whether Stanley and Peggy had a friendship or a love connection, why the hell he want to be around her in the first place? She basically back-stabbed and double crossed him in the movie
