Very bleak look at the old West.

Although I enjoyed the series, it was a good saga, I don't believe the West was as grim as portrayed. If settlers were as aggressive, violent, humorless and tetchy as the characters in this tale the West could never have developed, they would have destroyed each other. It was too distopian, like an end of civilization, but never the less very engrossing.
