The first part was intriguing and suspenseful. I was totally engrossed and I also thought the characters were interesting, like the brave pilot (David Morse), the tough Brit (Mark Lindsay Chapman), sweet blind girl (Kate Maberly) and the nasty loudmouth (Bronson Pinchot).
However once everything was revealed, it was a bit of a letdown, still it was a great ride getting there.
I agree to an extent. When they had created this amazing impending doom with the sound that was getting louder and louder, I can understand people hoping for something a bit more terrifying than dodgy cgi pacman balls. But at the same time because of the Langoliers' purpose I guess it had to be something that could clean up the environment with ease, and in an efficient manner.
The atmosphere in that unoccupied airport though, was incredible. I know the series had it's flaws, but that whole eerie feeling from the moment they were staring into the darkness of the luggage area, was so up my street it was unreal!
If you loved the tension in the buildup, definitely read the book if you haven't!
I've never read anything that's made me feel so tense and uneasy. Whenever they would mention the sound getting louder, and more encompassing, or that things seemed to be getting more worn out and faded.
The conclusion of the buildup is still a bit of let down, but the tension in it is really incredible. Super quick read, and well worth it.
But amazingly if you've seen this film, they boil the story down almost exactly. If it wasn't for the budget constraints, and the TV rating, this would probably be the best, most closely tied adaptations I've ever seen. I was immensely happy to see them get the story so right.
I felt the same way when I first read the book. But atleast there you see the destruction they left behind. I was surprised with how scattershot they were with their destruction here.
But CGI aside I actually kind of like the design of them. If the langoliers are gonna be little balls of teeth and destruction, they're definitely more threatening then I had envisaged in the book.

Great premise, ok buildup, terrible reveal and horrible ending.
I really don't get how he became so big in this genera.
