Yep it was a carrer change. Jackie got promotion in NY. Tiffany wanted to stay in LA to finish her senior year of H.S., so Marion became her guardian.

I remember reading somewhere that the main reason Debbie Allen took the part was that she was deep in debt, so i guess after a year and change of episodes she made back enough money that she didn't want to continue in it.

Oh never knew that. I agree with others though. She was one reason I loved this show. I'll never forget when LL played himself for her bosses b-day and she was his background dancer. LMAO!!! Or when she was cracking Milton's back and then they got caught on the floor. GOOD TIMES!!

The show was more family like then. Then it changed to a teen or young adult type show. This show lost it's flavor once season 4 came.

Debbie was in more than 3 episodes. I think she came in season 1 and left at the end of season 2 because when season 3 started she and Austin were already gone

Wow, how did she manage to get that deep into debt? She was making a million dollars per week, when she producing & directing episodes of A Different World, and she also had a millionaire husband. LOL

I liked the show when Debbie was on it. I stopped watching when Kim joined the cast. Kim was so annoying!!!!

Debbie Allen MADE this show. The first two seasons were amazing. Season 3 was good even though she had left, but after that the show just took a turn for the worst. Jackie could have been a really memorable onscreen mom like Clair Huxtable or Vivian Banks!

even though LL cool J was the main star, many watched for debbie allen. i did and she proved that with in the house and a different world as a shrink, she can be funny and do comedy really well. and she's hilarious too.

most know debbie mostly for fame, a different world, but for me, it was in the house- that was the first show i watched with her in it as i was too young for the other 2.

oh as for jackie going on to be as good a on-screen sitcom mum as clair huxtable and vivian, i think she can give the pair of them a good run for their money! my fav jackie moment was when she kissed marion (LL cool J) and pretended to be his girlfriend.

i loved debbie as jackie- she was a total hoot.

^^Debbie Allen kissing LL Cool J was a CLASSIC TV moment. IMO, if she was still on the show until the end, they could have focused on her finally finding a man and getting married. The whole theme of her being a divorcee was explored quite well in the beginning, but her departure meant we could never find out about what happened with her love life.
