I didn't get the ending! Who was the guy who set the fires? I didn't recognize him when they showed him lying on the ground. Who was he? A person from the town or a stranger?
shareHe was the fire inspector guy who had put all the volunteer firemen through the test at the beginning. Apparently, he had a crush on Esme, so I think the suggestion was that he had failed Rory so he'd have a better chance with her.
Hamish said he had set the fires to try and be a hero in her eyes.
He escorted her away from the school fire and then directed the investigation so the real cause wouldn't be discovered.
