Frankie's voice Series 3
Can anyone tell me what the heck is wrong with Frankie's voice in series 3? Just watched it and wondered if the voice had been dubbed for some reason.

Oh, reading these posts certainly has provided amusement! I thought I was imagining him sounding like a woman -- I watched from my bed, and I have poor eyesight, so I couldn't tell if he were being dubbed or not, HAHA!

The boy has a very high speaking voice, because he is a treble- a "boy soprano". Children who have soprano voices often have very high speaking voices as well.
A classic example is the two children in Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang. When they are excited their little voices sound like two little birds chirping.

No, I don't think it's nonsense. His lips don't match the words very well. I would say with some certainty that it's dubbed.

I've always assumed they either had him ADR his voice because it was breaking, or they liked him for his acting but not his singing and used the same boy for both his singing and his speaking voice. In any case, I feel quite sure the singer and speaker are one and the same.

The voice is dubbed. The lip movements don't match the sound, yet no one else is ADR'd. Most likely the voice was a problem or the performance wasn't there. It's not uncommon for women to play boys in radio and animation. The singing could have been either, though it sounded like a boy.

True story. Definitely dubbed. It's not a "soprano" speaking voice, it's a woman's speaking voice. It doesn't resonate in the surroundings the same way the other voices do and obviously it's out of sync.
I doubt it's because his voice was breaking - why would that be an issue? It would fit with the character. Frankie is supposed to be from Glasgow, and native Glaswegian accents are notoriously difficult to decipher for non-Scots. My guess is they dubbed for a broader British audience.
BTW, The kids in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang speak the way they do because Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is OLD. Kids don't talk like Shirley Temple anymore either.
In answer to this question; yes, Stephen Henderson's voice was dubbed over. I know this because I'm his younger cousin from Glasgow. I vividly recall sitting down with the family to watch this episode when it aired and we were extremely shocked by it. It was clear that they chose to dub over him because of his thick Glaswegian accent.
Stephen is no longer involved with the acting business.

I always wondered that too.
I was pretty sure I heard the same voice actor in an animation movie titled 'Steamboy'. This person did most of the voicework for the non-starring child characters in the Manchester scenes.

At first I though he was a lesbian because I heard the voice first and then looked up at the tv to see a shaved head! Presumably they thought a butch Glaswegian sounding women was appropriate (like Karen Dunbar). God knows why!
