Why "Karl Knave"?

In the Goosebumps Chillogy episodes, Karl is credited with the last name "Knave", but it never says his last name in the show or explains his last name, either. I'm guessing since "knave" is another word for "corrupt, unscrupulous, unfair and dishonest person" that this might be why the name was chosen for the character, but is there a different reason?
