why did ben chaplin leave the show

does anyone know why ben chaplin left the show and didnt return as matt.

reply

I think he was due to return but got the part in 'The truth about cats and dogs' which would have clashed with each other.

reply

He wanted to concentrate on his Hollywood career i think.

The trivia part of Ben Chaplin's bio states that he chose to pull out of the second series when he was offered the part in The Truth about Cats and Dogs as they clashed. Considering he has had a very good movie career, perhaps it was good decision.

one thing i wana know is, why did they recast the of Mat of someone who ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING like the origninal actor.

sayn that, the replacement was a very good actor.

In Answer to Big Hughezy's question of why they chose Stuke, who looked nothing like Chaplin.... is because... it was actually Ben Chaplin who suggested Neil Stuke for the role.

Chaplin and Stuke are friends off screen, when Chaplin pulled out of the second series, he suggested to the producers, that Stuke would be an ideal replacement.... and he was, I think.

Samantha Janus relayed this story in an interview with Des & Mel.

I heard that Stuke originally auditioned for the role of Matt but just lost out to Chaplin. With Chaplin gone, they cast Stuke straight away.
