I was researching about the series and read hints that there is YAOI implicit, but it doesn't make sense. I'm still not familiar with Fushigi Yuugi, so could anyone please clarify that?

XD uh well, the only actually Canon gay character is in very few episodes. Tomo of the Seiryuu. He has the hots for Nakago but they don't really delve into it so deep.
There are other things in it that basically feed yaoi fan girls some possibilities but it should not be labeled Yaoi.

And don't forget about that time when Nakago kissed Tamahome. but to have it be labled yaoi is totally wrong. i wouldn't even call it shounen-ai. not in the least. i mean Fushigi Yuugi= Normal, Gravitation= Shounen-ai, men actually boning each other on the tv, thats when you can call it yaoi. As a great yaoi lover myself, i find this offending. what was this place where they said this?
shareI've seen the show (every episode) when I was in 5th grade and besides from Nuriko being...you know, there's also Nakago. His relationship with Soi is just a cover up to me...and maybe you saw the time he frenched Tamahome in the last episode before he died. Aside from those I mentioned, I don't think it's yaoi.

It doesn't have what it takes to be called yaoi but there sure are some aspects of FY that seem to hint of *ahem* veiled yaoiness? *ahem*...
I mean, if you want to provoke or humiliate your (same-sex) enemy, you don't french-kiss them or lick their face (not unless you actually contemplated the idea of doing *other things* to your enemy apart from just destroying them x)...).

I wouldn't consider this yaoi at all, but it is a Japanese anime so you're going to get some gender bendy stuff. Watch it!

Nuriko is a heterosexual crossdresser who for a while pretends to have crushes on guys as part of an act (because he's dealing with personal issues). He hates being called gay and wants to be called a crossdresser. When he resolves his issues, he stops crossdressing, stop acting like he's into guys, and goes after the woman he loves (yes, he says he's in love with her, so he's not gay). He most likely is not bisexual either.
