Tinned soup at a dinner party?

Last time I had dinner guests I made a roast. We did have soup as a starter but it was home made, not tinned, one big pot of tomato and bacon soup, not different flavours for everyone.
Also the guy being manager of the company that made it. Why would he want that at a dinner party? You can have all the tinned soup of that brand you want. Time to eat out, what will you be having? The same tinned soup.
